Flame F1
Here are pictures and details of a recently completed Flame F1 Quilted Maple Custom.
This guitar was commissioned by a friend of mine, Paul. I got to know Paul when we both worked for the London Fire Brigade. We discovered that we had a joint love of guitars. It was a pleasure to make this guitar for him.
I get all my wood for guitar building from Dave Dyke Luthier Supplies who are based in Sussex. I have been using Luthier Supplies for more than 30 years. I saw this maple top on a visit there and knew immediately that I had to have it.
Before I give further details about the guitar, here is what Paul had to say about it.
Dear David,
I would like to express my gratitude for the wonderful Flame F1 custom guitar that you have created
for me. The whole process from commissioning the guitar through to final collection was a real pleasure.
I came to you with a basic idea of what I wanted and through your skill, experience, patience and
sound advice you were able to guide me towards the end result which is, to put quite simply,
stunning.
The instrument is beautiful to behold with its flame maple top and most importantly plays like a
dream; whether played clean, with crunch or driven hard, the array of tones available from the
switch control is superb……and the neck action is low and slick; I can’t stop playing it and could not
be happier.
You are a true master of your craft.
Many thanks once again.
As you can see from the above picture, this is a through-neck guitar. This type of construction allows for easy access to the upper frets. The neck is maple and the side wings are walnut.
