Electric Guitar & bass set-up

At my South London workshop I offer three types of electric guitar servicing and set up;

  1. Basic. I would recommend this for guitars that are reasonably clean, not heavily used, strings are less than 6 months old, and you just want the reassurance that the guitar is set-up properly and playing as well as it can. Cost: £25.
  2. Standard. I would recommend this type of service for most guitars. Cost: £45-55 plus new set of strings
  3. Deluxe. I would recommend this type of service for guitars that are heavily used and need a really good clean. In addition to the Standard service, components are removed and cleaned and the body and neck is cleaned and polished. Cost: £70-90, depending on condition of guitar, plus new set of strings

Basic Level Electric Guitar Service

  1. Check and adjust as necessary string height at nut
  2. Check neck relief and adjust truss rod as necessary
  3. Set string height
  4. Check and adjust intonation as necessary.
  5. Check and adjust as nessary pickup height and pole-piece height (on humbuckers)
  6. Check electrics
  7. Set string radius at bridge (on guitars which have individual string saddles)
  8. Leave overnight and check finished set-up

Cost: £25

Standard Level Electric Guitar Service

In addition to the Basic service, the guitar strings are removed, the fretboard is cleaned, oiled and polished (not maple fretboards), the frets are cleaned and polished, sharp fret ends are dressed smooth and a new set of strings is installed.

Cost: £45 plus new set of strings. (£55 for guitars with a tremolo)

Deluxe Level Electric Guitar Service

In addition to the Standard service, guitar components are removed and cleaned and the guitar body and neck is cleaned and polished. You can see some pictures of a Deluxe Service (and a fret level) below.

Cost: £70-90 plus new set of strings

All guitar servicing is by appointment. Please contact me to book an appointment so that we can arrange a time for you to visit Flame Guitars.

You can find further examples of servicing and set-up on the Flame Guitars Facebook page.

Below are some photographs which show a Deluxe Service on a Gibson SG. The guitar was heavily played with pitted and worn frets. The body was pretty grubby as well. The guitar was badly in need of a fret level, a deep clean and a full set-up. After several hours of work the guitar was as good as new (probably better, actually)
